About Us
The Central Oklahoma Math Circle program is one in which UCO students and faculty partner with Del City High School to engage high school students in fun and interesting mathematical ideas not found in a traditional high school math course.
The goals for the program are:
The program will begin January 2017 at US Grant High School and later moved to Del City High School. Students meet once a month on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 4:30. (Snacks will be provided.) The target audience is females interested in STEM; however, regardless of your gender and long term goals, you should attend. (There is no registration or enrollment fee.)
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact Dr. Liz Lane-Harvard at [email protected].
***The Central Oklahoma Math Circle was partially funded by the National Association of Math Circles (NAMC), a program of the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI).
The goals for the program are:
- To actively engage students in problem solving and to learn effective problem solving strategies which may not necessarily be covered in a traditional high school math course
- To help students build confidence and rely on their own understanding
- To help students learn to reason mathematically
- To help students collectively make sense of mathematics
- To encourage conjecturing and reflection
- To make connections among ideas and applications
- To have fun
